Srinagar Police launches ‘BHAROSA’ QR Feedback System

SSP Imtiyaz Hussain says move aims to deepen public trust, ensure swift action on complaints within 12 hours Srinagar, Apr 12 (KNO): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain on Saturday said the police are s working to further strengthen public trust by adopting transparent and accountable systems. "Public trust in the police already exists; however, our aim is to build on it with new initiatives," the SSP said while briefing media persons here. Hussain, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said police have taken a “first-of-its-kind” step in the country by launching a QR code-based feedback system in the city, starting from Nehru Park. “This system will have QR codes installed at all police stations, police offices, marketplaces, public places, and important institutions. People can scan the code, and a feedback window will open where they can share their complaints, suggestions, or experiences,” he said. The initiative, he said, is designed to promote accountability and transparency in policing. “It takes less than a minute to register your feedback, and this helps us understand how effective we are in our duties,” he added, saying it is a full-fledged system to respond within 12 hours. SSP Hussain further informed that a full-fledged system has been put in place to monitor all feedback collected through the QR code system. “If the complaint is genuine, we will ensure a response within 12 hours, and the issue will be forwarded to the concerned officer for action,” he said. He added that police QR codes will soon be pasted across the city, especially at key locations, to encourage public participation. “In a democracy, power belongs to the people. We want to see how we are perceived by the public and improve wherever needed,” he said. Imtiyaz said the Srinagar Police have also established dedicated helplines for verification queries and for sharing information related to drug abuse—part of their larger effort to modernise and make policing more citizen-friendly. Meanwhile, a police spokesperson in a statement issued to KNO termed the initiative a significant step towards further promoting transparency, accountability and strengthening public trust. "Srinagar Police has launched a QR Code-based Feedback Management System named BHAROSA QR to collect real-time feedback from the general public regarding the functioning and services rendered by the police," the spokesperson said. He added, "This citizen-friendly initiative allows individuals to scan QR codes placed at all police stations, police offices and prominent public locations such as bus stops, marketplaces, and major institutions." Once scanned, users are redirected to a secure feedback page where they can share their experiences, suggestions and concerns related to police behaviour, responsiveness and overall service delivery, police said, adding that the process is quick, simple and takes less than a minute. To further ease communication, police have introduced a dedicated WhatsApp number: 8899112888, where citizens can send feedback directly through text, voice messages, photos or videos, the spokesperson said. "The system is anonymous and designed for accessibility, encouraging inclusive participation from all segments of society. A dedicated feedback management cell at the SSP Srinagar office will regularly monitor the feedback, ensuring prompt action on grievances and recognition of commendable conduct by police personnel,” the statement reads. Police said this forward-thinking initiative has been conceptualised by young IPS Officer Vaibhav Meena, SDPO Nehru Park, for community-oriented police service in Srinagar. "This initiative is part of Srinagar Police’s ongoing efforts to modernize policing and deepen community engagement. This is the latest in a series of citizen-friendly initiatives, which include dedicated helplines for police verification queries and reporting drug-related activities," the spokesperson said.
